ABSTRACT. The aim of the present study is to examine and evaluate the effectiveness of peer review, peer-reviewed contributions as a measure of scientific advancement, the reliability and fairness of peer review, and the reliance on IF to evaluate scientific quality. In this paper I am particularly interested in exploring the fairness of peer review, the impact factor as a marker of quality of articles in certain academic settings, and the extent to which peer review is achieving an improvement in scholarship. pp. 120–125
