ABSTRACT. Veres et al. argue that the measurement of agricultural exploitation sustainability can be achieved through a set of indicators which refer to the three fields – economic, social and ecological. Cook et al. maintain that new control strategies for insect pests of arable agriculture are needed to reduce current dependence on synthetic insecticides, the use of which is unsustainable. Avila and Izquierdo observe that the most used biotechnological techniques which support the agricultural sector at a global level have been in vitro plant culture, the use of molecular markers, and genetic engineering.
