ABSTRACT. This paper provides a systematic literature review of studies investigating generative artificial intelligence and virtual team performance tools furthering data-driven cognitive and affective processes, career paths, and talent management. The analysis highlights that generative artificial intelligence and virtual navigation tools can further performance management processes, effective organizational practices, and employee reskilling and upskilling. Throughout July 2023, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “generative artificial intelligence and adaptive self-organizing systems” + “remote collaboration and virtual team performance tools,” “wearable augmented reality devices,” and “immersive work environments.” As research published in 2023 was inspected, only 168 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 49 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AMSTAR, Distiller SR, MMAT, and ROBIS.

Keywords: remote collaboration; virtual team performance tools; generative artificial intelligence; adaptive self-organizing systems; wearable augmented reality devices; immersive work
