ABSTRACT. In this paper I am particularly interested in exploring the insurance industry’s covered losses, the proper functioning of insurance schemes, the risk profile of catastrophe insurance claims, and the development of a catastrophic risk insurance market. The overall results provide strong evidence for the insurance industry’s financial power, the concept of insurability, the interplay between climate change and the insurance industry, and the role of the government vis-a-vis the private sector in catastrophe insurance markets. pp. 224–229

Keywords: insurance, losses, natural disaster, climate change
