ABSTRACT. The mainstay of the paper is formed by an analysis of the semantic expression of smart clothes, the symbol functions of clothing and fashion, functionality of smart clothing, and the complexity and diversity of wearables. We are specifically interested in how previous research investigated user requirements during the functional clothing development process, the end-user needs for smart clothing, the scope of functional clothing, and the meaning of clothing and fashion. pp. 162–167
