ABSTRACT. The main objective of this paper is to explore and describe the complexly networked global processes of reflexive modernization, the circulatory dynamics of the information economy, the continuous dilation of the scale and scope of knowledge, and mass media’s societal function of providing the consuming public with options for deciding what matters. The theory that I shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on the ubiquitous nature of the digital educational environment, the demands of a changing knowledge base in the knowledge economy, global adult higher education in the environment of the knowledge society, and the challenges posed to HE by contemporary global dynamics. pp. 348–354
