ABSTRACT. EPHA claims that availability of fresh food is crucial as is the role of the food industry in improving the nutritional content of processed food and limiting their promotional activity to children. NHF argues that a European Action Plan should be developed with the aim of increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables for better health, and to fight obesity and related non communicable diseases. Álvarez-Coque et al. contend that the main characteristics of EU’s market in fruits and vegetables are trend towards overproduction, price fluctuations, and relatively low protection and public support.
