ABSTRACT. Henderson argues that the IMF influenced the adjustment processes of several Eastern European nations in the 1980s through its efforts to promote market-oriented stabilization and reform. Scrieciu and Stringer observe that since the collapse of Communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, the reform process has been considerably influenced by the neoclassical economic approach to transition. Mihas deals with certain aspects of nationalism, minorities and transition politics in the post-communist Balkans with particular reference to Romania.
