Kentor examines the impact of the expansion of transnational corporate subsidiaries on the economic growth of less developed countries between 1970 and 2000. Bartels proposes a new approach to studying the effectiveness of foreign assistance: the effectiveness of foreign assistance and the degree to which it is fungible can only be understood through an institution-based model of fiscal behavior that accounts for the competing incentives actors face in the presence of foreign assistance.
