ABSTRACT. The present study systematically reviews the existing research on brain‒computer interface-based sensory experiences, medical record tracking and sharing, and smart clinical diagnosis across the digital twin-enabled healthcare metaverse. The contribution to the literature is by clarifying that healthcare metaverse systems and 3D patient body modeling shape real-time patient data monitoring, customized medical treatments, and healthcare data management medical diagnosis services, improving patient care and experience. Throughout June 2024, a quantitative literature review of the Web of Science, Scopus, and ProQuest databases was performed, with search terms including “algorithmic diagnostic processes in virtual clinical environments” + “digital twin smart healthcare and virtual patient simulation systems,” “individualized treatment plan automation,” and “big data-driven disease management and medical imaging technologies.” As research published between 2022 and 2024 was inspected, only 171 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 32 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: AXIS, CASP, DistillerSR, Litstream, PICO Portal, and SWIFT-Active Screener.

Keywords: digital twin smart healthcare; virtual patient simulation; individualized treatment plan automation; big data-driven disease management; medical imaging; algorithmic diagnostic process
