THE PROCESS AND CONTENT OF MUSICAL IDENTITY FORMATION
ION OLTETEANUABSTRACT. The theory that I shall seek to elaborate here puts considerable emphasis on political and ethical issues affecting the music’s reception and production, the nature of music and the ways in which we position ourselves in relation to others, the use of music in cross-cultural encounters, music’s capacity for either constituting or dissolving society, and the social psychology of music. Related topics I will explore the creation of music, the development of musical identities, the role of music as a means of structuring everyday experience, and the social functions of music in the lives of individuals. pp. 167–172
