ABSTRACT. Dummett contends that he wants to arrive at a model of the proper form of a theory of meaning in which our understanding of our language consists. Dummett asserts that the whole difficulty arises from the principle that the reference of an expression must be determined from its sense alone. Dummett remarks that according to a holistic view of language, it is illegitimate to ask after the content of any single statement.
