ABSTRACT. Ironically, academic art lacks a dogmatic academic definition. It is not because it too vague of a term, but, being applied to the arts, it is knowledge accumulated and transmitted mostly through word-of-mouth, practice and, above everything else, through the works of the masters that serve both as books of theory and pedagogues.

Keywords: academic art; classicism; representation; modernism; objective beauty
