ABSTRACT. Is the phrase “the metaphysics of the real” an oxymoron or a pleonasm? It depends on what we mean by real. And the understandings are many and diverse, a kind of quod capita tot sensus, in a more restricted manner. To some people, there’s no difference between the real and the reality. To others, that difference exists, and is essential. We will try to show in the present paper, men need more than just material sustenance. Devoid of transcendence things become idols and idols lead to monstrosities.
