MECHANISMS OF MUSICAL EMOTIONS
CRINUTA POPESCUABSTRACT. The aim of the present study is to examine and evaluate the joint influences of structural and expressive cues on emotional responses to music, sub- cortical involvement in the auditory processing of emotion, the neural correlates of emotions, the capability of music to evoke activity changes in the hippocampus, and music as a mode of intervention. In the present paper, I focus on the emotional intensity of the emotion felt during music listening, the cognitive basis of emotion recognition through music, the nature of music therapy and its effectiveness for autism, and involvement of subcortical mechanisms in the auditory processing of communicated states of emotion. pp. 179–184
