ABSTRACT. Hegel develops his own distinctive understanding of absolute knowledge as the product of a dialectical process of mediation and self-differentiation. Hegel conceives individual action as being necessarily embedded in a people's set of practical, ethical, and political institutions. Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit is implicitly in that, throughout it, ontological claims are paired with epistemological stances (Russon).
