ABSTRACT. Broome compares the values of distribution of well-being for different groups of the same size and then groups of different sizes. Lafort's thinking about modern democracy is not a rehearsal of abstract ideas but rather an attempt to evoke an experience of democracy (Flynn). In applying Rawls' principles of justice there are two relevant social positions, that of equal citizen and that determined by one's place "in the distribution of wealth".
