THE ROLE OF COHERENCE IN LEGAL REASONING
GRATIELA MARCUABSTRACT. A complete legal theory does not merely identify the rules of a legal system, but also interprets and evaluates them. Hart distinguishes the "external" from the "internal" points of view with regard to how the rules of a legal system may be described or evaluated. Dworkin asserts that the law is coherent to the extent that it is coherent to an ideal judge with perfect knowledge of the legal system. Legal analysis should become a conversation between legal technicians and the larger civic body.
