CHALLENGES FACING SCHOLARLY PUBLISHING
GEORGE LAZAROIUABSTRACT. The main objective of this paper is to explore and describe the shape and form of academic knowledge ecologies, the excessive cost of commercial journal content, escalating costs of scientific periodicals, and the benefits of facilitating access to research data and outputs. Applying new conceptual and methodological approaches, this study advances to the next level research on the construct validity of peer review as a test/process, adverse impacts of predatory publishing in scholarly work, and the rise of open access journals. pp. 158–163
