ABSTRACT. Expressive performance consists of deviation from the regular, in sound properties such as loudness, tempo, articulation, and intonation. Before an effective interpretation can be developed, both a musicological and historical investigation should take place. The study of certain factors of original performances may help us to understand stylistic features of the music and how its current notation could best be interpreted.
