ABSTRACT. The study aims to analyze the manner in which the great Romanian ruler Constantin Brâncoveanu was rendered in various portraits. Starting with Matei Basarab, most of the Romanian princes are represented by Western artists in a posture characteristic to the monarchs from the epoch of the early Baroque, with oriental elements of clothing, hence Brâncoveanu does nothing more but to continue the already existing tradition. Constantin Brâncoveanu was one of the most important ktetors of churches and monasteries in the Romanian Country, hence we analyze the way he was rendered in the painting of Hurezi Monastery.
