Ebbing away with the flow
Sivaramakrishnan MuraliABSTRACT. This essay, in search for the creative process and drawing on William Wordsworth (“From love, for here / Do we begin and end, all grandeur comes, / All truth and beauty, from pervading love, / That gone, we are as dust”) and William Butler Yeats (“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper”), is an attempt to explore the delicate interface between creativity and the human mind that senses the impermanence of all being. The poetry of Wordsworth and Yeats are considered, with a view to understanding how the idea of time, ageing and creative tension intervene to generate a poetics of transience and transformation, through which the creative mind tries to cope with the evanescent nature of phenomenal reality. pp. 33-38
