Critical Race Theory, Whiteness Studies and Identity
FLORIAN ANDREI VLADABSTRACT. Discussions involving race are extremely sensitive nowadays, and what is generally known as “political correctness” has established rules of verbal conduct that are sometimes deliberately, but often unwittingly, broken. To claim that an individual has voiced a racist opinion is tantamount to exposing them as immoral and unworthy. The emotional load of the word racism has been linked to definite political abuse. Whatever definition of racism is offered in the field of the social sciences, it has an impact not only in academic work, but also in ethical and political debate. The present article discusses the latest theories of race(ism) and its influence on identity construction.
