The smell
Nicolae PaneaABSTRACT. The present study attempts to revalue the subtleties of smell, as one of the most anthropologically bidding senses. Exploring the map of urban smells, the argument goes from the
industrial neighbourhood, with its marginal mixture of garbage and perfume, to the social function of smell, as a fluid sign of gender or household rhythmicity. In the downtown area, the smells of the people and of the buildings create its dominant olfactory paradigm, forging its identity, while the smells of its old and new constructions add a social dimension to it, oscillating between dynamism and tradition. pp. 108–128
