DOES XI JINPING’S ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN REALLY SUPPORT CLEAN AND TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT AND MARKET EFFICIENCY?
LUMINIȚA IONESCUABSTRACT. This article reviews and advances existing literature (e.g. Chen, 2017; Lee, 2018; Osburg, 2018; Zhu and Zhang, 2017; Zhu, Huang, and Zhang, 2018) concerning China’s anti-corruption campaign and its auditing routines. Using data from BloombergGadfly, ChinaFile, China Today, Economist.com, Euromonitor, HIS, Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, State Statistics Bureau, The Urban Land Institute, and The Wall Street Journal, I performed analyses and made estimates regarding the number of senior officials being investigated by procuratorates for corruption, Chinese people’s reaction to the Communist Party of China’s efforts to curb corruption, and the share of developers that expect to decrease their investments in certain Chinese real-estate sectors.
