HUME ON THE AESTHETIC RELEVANCE OF REASON
SILVIU SERBANABSTRACT. In this paper I am particularly interested in exploring the role of sympathy in Hume’s aesthetic theory, his moral philosophy as naturalistic self-governance, his elaboration of aesthetic judging, and the interposition of sympathy in Hume’s account of beauty. This study is grounded in the considerable body of scholarship examining the triadic structure of judgments of taste in Hume, his remarks on the pleasures of property, his accounts of aesthetic sentiment, and the importance of sympathy in Hume’s understanding of aesthetic judging. pp. 125–130
