THE DEMOCRATIC LEGITIMACY OF EUROPEAN GOVERNANCE
STEFAN PAUNABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to examine the nature and variety of the EU’s global actorness, EU’s democratic legitimacy, the logic of the EU’s system of separation of powers, the reality of current EU politics, and the supranational aspects of policy-making in the EU. The main focus of this paper is the study of the creation of the EU’s single market, the emergence of European levels of governance, the involvement of civil society in EU policymaking, the democratic legitimacy of European governance, and the character of political conflict in the EU. pp. 229–234
