THE CHANGING FORM AND FUNCTIONS OF CITIES IN AN EXPANDING GLOBAL ECONOMY
ELENA PAUNABSTRACT. The purpose of this paper will be to supply a brief overview of the transformation of the centralized urban structure, the emergence of city-regions in an expanding global economy, the expansion of the global mosaic of city-regions, the changing form and functions of cities, the future of cities, and the economic and social functioning of the arrival city. We are specifically interested in how previous research investigated social experience of the urban commons, the rhythm of daily life in urban public spaces, the city’s new urban cores, the geographic logic of the city, the social space of the city, and the building and maintenance of the arrival cities. pp. 200–205
