ABSTRACT. This paper examines the expressive content of a musical gesture, how music affects listeners’ mental images of bodily motion, and the embodiment of music expression. Meelberg notes that musical emotion is the result of the interpretation of musical affect. Eitan and Granot investigate how music affects listeners’ mental images of bodily motion, examining whether changes in musical parameters evoke corresponding changes in listeners’ spatial and kinetic imagery. Leman et al. explore whether music expression can be studied and understood within the paradigm of embodied music cognition (the human body is the natural mediator between experience and physical reality).
