THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE MUSIC AS A SOCIALLY UNIFYING FORCE
ION OLTETEANUABSTRACT. The objective of this paper is to emphasize the importance of music as a resource for producing social life, and music’s discursive communicative capacity. DeNora portrays music as a temporal structure, as offering semiotic particles. Bispham states that specific features of musicality provide a temporal and/or pitch based framework for synchronous interpersonal interaction. On Agawu’s reading, semiotics provides the most felicitous framework for rendering music as structure and style. According to Cambouropoulos, one cannot study musical structure without implicit or explicit recourse to some aspect of musical similarity/dissimilarity. (pp. 203–208)
