Networked and Integrated Urban Technologies, Spatial Cognition and Remote Sensing Algorithms, and Big Data Mining and Virtual Navigation Tools in Digital Twin Cities and Realistic 3D Simulation Environments

This paper draws on a substantial body of theoretical and empirical research on networked and integrated urban technologies, virtual simulation and computer vision algorithms, predictive maintenance and geospatial mapping tools, virtual and augmented reality devices, and cognitive data fusion techniques. A quantitative literature review of ProQuest, Scopus, and the Web of Science was carried out throughout January 2025, with search terms including “digital twin cities and realistic 3D simulation environments” + “networked and integrated urban technologies,” “spatial cognition and remote sensing algorithms,” and “big data mining and virtual navigation tools.” As research published between 2022 and 2024 was inspected, only 174 articles satisfied the eligibility criteria, and 28 mainly empirical sources were selected. Data visualization tools: Dimensions (bibliometric mapping) and VOSviewer (layout algorithms). Reporting quality assessment tool: PRISMA. Methodological quality assessment tools include: BIBOT, Citationchaser, R package and Shiny app citationchaser, Eppi-Reviewer, METAGEAR package for R, and SRDR+.
