ABSTRACT. Welcome to the first issue for 2017 and Volume 5 of Knowledge Cultures journal. This is our first general issue as co-editors, since taking over a year ago from founding Editor, Michael A. Peters. In founding Knowledge Cultures in 2013 as a new interdisciplinary journal, Peters capitalised on his extensive academic networks to attract, support and initiate many high-quality, topical proposals for Special Issues. Thus the first few volumes of Knowledge Cultures have featured mostly Special Issues. This general issue contains six original research articles, each focusing on some aspect of the contemporary nexus between education, technology, politics and the globalised economy. Authors in this issue are writing about the conditions in which we find ourselves working as academics in 2017. pp. 11–12
